Features and benefits of tequila

Agave cultivation dates back to millennial times, and after the Spanish conquer, this ‘Wonder Tree’ was also valued by the Spaniards as a miraculous source of life and good health.

Nowadays, more than 200 species of this genus are known with an antiquity of 10 million years, and its first use for food purposes is historically located in Mexico almost 9,000 years ago.

The species from which the tequila is extracted is Tequilana Weber blue agave, a plant that stands out by its narrow, rigid, long, blue blades of magnificent beauty.  In a 100% pure tequila, its exquisite flavor comes from the syrup of this mythical plant’s peculiar characteristics.

Tequila is the only beverage in the world which raw material has an absolutely Mexican origin with an historical background wrapped in legendary traditions, which makes it a true ambassador of the Mexican culture, preserving a certain halo of mysticism since the ancient inhabitants of the first native civilizations used it on their offerings and rituals, considering it as a precious gift of the gods only worthy of the noblest, wisest and most honorable men.

All of the benefits of drinking tequila have survived until today.  So, if you drink it with moderation, you can enjoy all of the following benefits:

  • lower cholesterol levels in the blood, improving the cardiovascular function
  • better absorption of calcium
  • muscle relaxation and insomnia aid
  • fat dissolution, improved digestion and metabolism acceleration
  • healthy intestinal flora development
  • optimal lipid process
  • improved symptoms of colitis and irritable bowel syndrome
  • insulin production stimulation that counteracts diabetes
  • lower/fewer flu symptoms
  • appetite and anxiety reduction
  • aphrodisiac properties

The fascinating concept of the perfect geometric shape as the name and great inspiration for us to create Circulo Tequila, comes from a magical archaeological site named Guachimontones, an ancient settlement comprising a number of shooting graves and circular ceremonial centers, located in the foothills of the Tequila Volcano in Teuchitlán in the state of Jalisco, Mexico.

The recent discovery of this mysterious place by the anthropologist and researcher Phil C. Weigand, totally changed the conception of the Mexican western native civilizations, so because of Guachimontones’ high level of development (between 200 BC and 800 AD), it is now widely recognized as an uncommonly advanced culture that flourished ahead of other civilizations such as Teotihuacán and Tenochtitlán, promoting the development of an elaborated economic, political and social order along with the rising of great communities, obsidian workshops and complex circular architecture as their hallmark, a unique contribution to the world architecture repertoire.

After a deep study of this surprising civilization more than 2,000 years old and because of its cultural and anthropological importance, we discovered that, from ancient times, the circle has been attributed sacred qualities that are permanently present in the universe, both physical and spiritual, because more than just a shape, the circle is a continuous moving line that represents all cycles in life in a constant evolution.  Therefore, Circulo Tequila represents the evolution of tequila, as it continuously evolves to meet the demands of the people of today.

Circulo Tequila is a brand that is committed to supporting the town of Teuchitlán in the preservation of its culture, continuous prosperity and welfare of its people.  That’s why since the beginning of our project, we have helped sponsor the town yearly fair, and also contributing with the gastronomy of the town by helping local restaurants to improve their image, making their menus more attractive to stimulate the flow of tourism in their community.

What is good tequila

What is good tequila?

Circulo Tequila stands out from other spirited beverages for its long and meticulous process, along with a legendary tradition that results in an outstanding level of refinement that exceeds all expectations of the 21st Century palates.

Directly from the ‘Highlands of Jalisco’, with its high plateaus, wide plains and shallow valleys; its beautiful reddish tone soil that contribute to the plant iron and essential minerals; its lake sediments and basaltic block formations; a climate of wide temperatures and high humidity, as well as a height that exceeds 2000 meters above sea level, have allowed the development of these exceptionally fertile soils for growing Tequilana Weber blue agave, all of which, along with our special care and dedication, give that unique character to Circulo Tequila, filling it with a noble spirit that reflects not only the natural wealth of these lands but also the great passion and dedication of all the people involved in this exciting project.

The planting and growth of the blue agave takes at least eight years to get its optimum ripening, symbolizing a patient dialogue between nature and man for more than a hundred moons until its final harvest, offering its life in sacrifice while its essence transcends and is reborn into this spirited Mexican elixir.

Our secret for creating an outstanding beverage with a refreshing, sophisticated flavor begins with a very careful selection of the ripest agaves (7 to 13 years old), a very slow cook time (48 hours) in brick ovens, the extraction of the exquisite agave syrup, its fermentation in stainless steel tanks with French yeast from the Champagne region for a whole week while classical music is played sending positive vibrations to the living yeast as it works converting sugars into alcohol, ending with a double distillation that gives the finest flavor to our Circulo Silver.

Afterwards, the tequila is aged for one year in new American white oak barrels to extract the delicious flavors of the wood, assuring a remarkable smoothness to Circulo Reposado.
